Dogs

A recent study in welfare kennels showed that there are noticeable peaks in dogs showing stress when site is open to visitors and that 90% of kennelled dogs were showing this!

Therefore, as of 1st January 2019 after a successful trial, we will be introducing a new procedure for the viewing of dogs by appointment only.  In line with other major animal welfare organisations we will no longer allow public access to our kennel runs.

Viewing will be by appointment only and suitable dog(s) will be brought up for you to meet.  We request that other visitors do not walk around the kennels; all other areas will be open as usual to visitors.

We are hoping that this will not impact on the numbers of our dogs finding new homes but having spoken to other similar organisations this has not been the case, and a tremendous difference has been made to the dogs' welfare.

Please bear with us while we fine tune this system.

All dogs that are adopted from Woodside have to have a pre home visit before going out.  The Trust do not home to a property with no or communual garden.  A garden will need to be fully enclosed with 6ft fencing before a dog is rehoused.

Dogs available for adoption include:

Adam

Adam

A truly lovely boy, Adam is a 4 year old medium sized dog that came to us from Portugal. Unfortunately, during his time there he was attacked by a pack of wild dogs and suffered horrendous injuries to one of his legs. Subsequently, Adam’s leg had to be amputated, however he seems to adapted well to life on three paws and happily enjoys his walks (after a little encouragement to leave his bed where he loves to sleep).

Currently in a foster home where he is doing well, Adam loves people and seems to be fine with other dogs, if a little over enthusiastic. However, Adam does have a high prey drive but he walks well on a lead despite this. If you are interested in viewing Adam you will need to contact the Sanctuary first.

He is looking for an owner who is willing to put in the time and effort to train him and help him to become fully housetrained. He is a friendly boy who will make a rewarding friend.

Nemo

Nemo

Nemo is a 9/10 year old cross breed from Portugal, who is unfortunately partially deaf. While he does also have a grade 2/3 heart murmur which means he can’t have a lot of exercise especially when the weather is hot, he still enjoys going for walks and gets excited when carers come to greet him in his kennel. Nemo does have a high prey drive, however he walks well with a harness.

Nemo was recently in a foster home with 3 other dogs and he settled well after having built up his socialisation with other dogs here at the sanctuary. His attitude towards other dogs has improved greatly since coming to Woodside, although he can still bark at other dogs when he’s on a lead. As a really sweet boy who is partial to the odd tummy rub, Nemo is looking for an adult only home with someone who is home most of the time to give him the love and attention he needs.
